As changes continue to take place at our school—such as adjustments to the schedule—it is interesting to observe how both faculty and students adapt to these changes. To gain insight into these changes, I interviewed several members of the Pace community.
As many are aware, the new daily schedule has received mixed feedback. Previously, students attended three classes before lunch and recess, followed by four classes afterward. This year, however, the schedule has shifted to four classes before lunch and recess, office hours following lunch and recess, and then three classes after office hours. When asked for his thoughts on the new schedule, Dean Brown shared, “I feel like everyone else is polarized about it, and honestly, it’s not bad. Thirty-five minutes is a good amount of time to get things done that you don’t finish in the morning. Overall, it’s pretty good.”
Kennedy Jackson said, “At the beginning of the year, I didn't like it, but as the year has gone on, I have started to enjoy it. When teachers change the office hours, or when we have an assembly during it, everything messes everyone up. I didn’t like at the beginning of the year how there were four classes before lunch and recess.”
Janel Peirre said, “Umm, I like that we have four periods in the morning because it makes the afternoons feel shorter, and you know, I don’t really like school.”
And finally, Dr. Boehner said, “I’m confused all the time, I have no idea when a class starts or when it ends, and I have just sorta given up. When the bell rings, I just wait for new students to come. I always forget to tell them to clean up when there are 5 minutes left.”
